Lavender Gimlet

Happy Saturday! I hope you all had a fab 4th of July holiday 🙂 this week went by so fast but I’m glad it’s finally the weekend! For this weeks #SipsWithSami, I wanted to do something a little different. I recently had the most delicious Lavender drink at a local restaurant and that inspired me to try something similar out for myself. It took a few tries for me to get it to taste just right but I finally did and knew I had to share it with you guys.

Now this recipe is not as simple as my previous ones, but if you’re feeling adventurous and want to make something different, then this is the drink for you 🙂

Lavender Gimlet:

Total Time: ~ 30 minutes

Servies: 2

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces of Gin (add more if you like your drink stronger)
  • 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cup of water
  • 1/2-1 ounce of lavender simple syrup (depends on how strong you want the lavender taste to be)
  • Black sugar for the rim of the glass
  • **Optional – purple/violet food coloring (or mix a drop of red and a drop of blue) mixed with 1/4 cup of water for puple/pinkish color**

Instructions:

  • First, you need to make the lavender simple syrup: Boil 2 cups of water and 1/4 cup of sugar. Once it boils, take off heat and add 1/4 cup of lavender seeds and stir. Let it sit for 15 minutes then strain out seeds
  • Next, line the rim of the glass with black sugar. I like to run a cut lemon around the edge of the glass so the sugar sticks firmly
  • **Optional Step** – to make your drink a purple pinkish color mix 1/4 cup of water with one drop of red food coloring and one drop of blue, or two drops of purple/violet
  • In a shaker, add 2 ounces of Gin, 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice, lavender simple syrup and ice (also add the food coloring here if you decide to use it)
  • Shake and strain into a cocktail glass
  • Garnish with a sprig of lavender or lavender seeds (optional)
  • Enjoy!

Side note: I ordered the lavender seeds and black rim sugar off of Etsy, I will link it below! Also, a heads up – although it looks really cool, the black rim sugar will stain your lips, teeth, tongue, etc. lol! I had no idea until I finished my drink and noticed my mouth was black.. so I recommend maybe using a straw if you don’t want to stain your mouth.

Please don’t ever stop doing Sips With Sami! I’m learning so many new cool cocktails to make, including this one with one of my favorite ingredients…lavender! Quick question: did you use to be a bartender, or are you self taught? Awesome either way 🙂

This drink sounds so sophisticated and divine!! I love that you have the garnish around the rim of the glass for that extra fancy touch.
